Hi JFM,
I'm sorry but I don't understand why you would want to anesthetise the bees. Of course, to calm them it is customary to use smoke, but I assume you know that. Some people use chemicals to move the bees while frames are removed for extraction. I personally never use chemicals. If I haven't provided an appropriate answer please explain further.
